What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

The following are the core beliefs of Hope Fellowship PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

Core Beliefs

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

Philosophy of Ministry

Our purpose, vision, and mission as a church spring from our knowledge of God, his word, and the world he created and how we are commanded to live in His creation as image bearers and those redeemed by grace given through Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Our ministry is built on the foundation that our sovereign God rules over creation and we as his ambassadors are called to glorify God and enjoy him forever. God eternally reveals himself through his son Jesus Christ, we commit to submission under His Lordship every day of our lives.

In order to submit ourselves to Christ, we experience God’s presence daily and enjoy the benefits of the Gospel through right understanding of God’s power, control, and authority over our individual lives. God works through his inspired, inerrant, and infallible word which is contained in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Therefore, we believe God’s Word is the primary authority in our lives and relationships because it is God’s own word written for his people. Also, as we strive to submit to Christ and his word, we live in faithful submission to Jesus and follow a long, rich heritage of reformed biblical wisdom whereby we confess our faith with the Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, and the Westminster Confession of Faith along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.

As we build our lives and ministry upon this foundation we believe that God’s purpose for the world is being fulfilled through the visible church as his kingdom comes in power in our lives and Gospel community. We believe that the eternal, invisible church is a gathering of individuals whom God has, is, and will fully redeem as a people set apart for himself. We proclaim Christ’s resurrection and ascension where he is now seated at the right hand of the Father as the head of his church and exercises his kingly authority and in him is our living, eternal hope. We place our hope in the knowledge that Christ rules over and transforms his church by the power of his Holy Spirit into the likeness of Christ that we may increasingly glorify God to our neighbors and the nations.
